Dr Megan Patterson

15+ years of experience

Dr Megan Patterson is an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist who specialises in supporting teenagers and young adults aged 13–25. She has extensive experience working in primary care and community settings, helping young people navigate a wide range of emotional, social, and developmental challenges. Her work is grounded in a compassionate, collaborative approach that supports clients to understand their experiences, build resilience, and move towards their values and hopes for the future.

Megan works with young people experiencing anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, complex trauma, PTSD, low mood, relationship difficulties, gender identity concerns, challenges linked to neurodiversity (such as ADHD and autism), and the impact of toxic or unhealthy relationships. She also supports young people struggling with stress, burnout, boundary-setting, identity issues, school or university pressures, and feelings of exclusion or not fitting in.

Alongside individual therapy, Megan has strong experience working with families and community networks. She is skilled in creating safe, supportive therapeutic relationships with young people who may feel wary of services or who have had mixed experiences with support in the past. Her practice draws on trauma-informed, attachment-based, narrative, and systemic approaches, always tailored to the unique needs of each young person.

Megan’s background includes leading teams within NHS services supporting adolescents and young adults, where she has facilitated reflective spaces for staff, supervised practitioners, and helped develop accessible, youth-friendly models of care. She brings a strong commitment to social inclusion and understands the pressures young people face around identity, relationships, safety, belonging, and future direction.

She is trained in a broad range of evidence-based approaches, including Narrative Therapy, Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), trauma-informed and attachment-based models, integrative psychological therapies, and community-focused approaches such as AMBIT. This enables her to work flexibly, integrating psychological insight with practical tools around self-care, boundaries, coping strategies, and building supportive relationships.

Megan’s therapeutic style is warm, down-to-earth and genuinely collaborative. She provides a space where young people feel respected and understood, while gently helping them develop clarity, confidence, and healthier ways of navigating the challenges in their lives.

If you feel that therapy with Megan may support you or a young person you care about, please get in touch.
