Therapy for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)

If you spend a lot of time worrying about how you look — often focusing on specific features or perceived flaws — you may be experiencing BDD. It can feel distressing, exhausting, and hard to talk about. At Hampstead Psychology, we help people move toward a more peaceful relationship with their body and self-image — in clinics across London or online.

What Is BDD?

BDD is a condition where you become preoccupied with how you look — even if others don’t notice the “problem.”

You might:

  • Obsess over one or more parts of your body (e.g. skin, face, hair, shape)

  • Avoid mirrors — or check your reflection constantly

  • Seek constant reassurance or compare yourself to others

  • Avoid social situations or photos

  • Feel anxious, ashamed, or low because of your appearance

BDD is not vanity. It’s a distressing condition — and help is available.

We tailor treatment to each individual, drawing on a range of evidence-based approaches including Exposure and Response Prevention, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and other specialist therapies.
