Dr Paul Mallett
Consultant Psychiatrist
30+ years of experience
Dr Paul Mallett is a highly experienced Consultant Psychiatrist who works with adults experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties, from mild to complex and severe presentations. He supports clients with depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychosis, emotional instability, and difficulties where symptoms, life circumstances, relationships, and risk may be closely intertwined. He is particularly experienced in working with people whose difficulties do not fit neatly into a single diagnostic category and who need a thoughtful, careful psychiatric assessment.
Dr Mallett has over three decades of experience in general adult mental health and has worked for many years at senior consultant level. His depth of experience allows him to bring clear clinical judgement to complex situations, helping clients and families better understand what may be happening, what treatment options may be appropriate, and what kind of care is likely to be most useful.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Mallett has held senior leadership positions within the NHS, including serving as Medical Director of an NHS Trust. These roles have given him a sophisticated understanding of mental health care at both individual and service level. He continues to undertake consultancy work within NHS organisations, contributing his expertise to complex clinical situations and service-level learning following serious incidents.
Dr Mallett qualified from Guy’s Hospital Medical School in 1985 and was appointed as a Consultant Psychiatrist in 1993, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He is approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act, reflecting his specialist expertise in the assessment and treatment of mental disorders. He remains in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, engages in ongoing continuing professional development, participates in regular peer supervision, and is fully registered with the General Medical Council.
Dr Mallett’s approach is thoughtful, measured, and clinically robust. He offers a discreet and highly experienced psychiatric perspective for adults who want a careful understanding of their mental health, especially where difficulties are complex, longstanding, severe, or difficult to make sense of. His work is characterised by depth, clarity, and sound clinical judgement, helping clients and those involved in their care reach a more informed view of diagnosis, risk, treatment, and the next steps forward.
