Nicholas Messing

25+ years of experience

Nicholas trained as a Counselling Psychologist over 20 years ago and is also qualified as a Parent–Infant Psychotherapist. He has spent the majority of his career working within the NHS, across adult, child and family, and parent and baby services. He has held clinical lead roles and supervised multidisciplinary teams, bringing a depth of experience to his therapeutic work.

Nicholas works with individuals, children, and families, with particular expertise in understanding relationships — both with oneself and between others. He works psychodynamically, helping people make sense of emotional distress by placing current difficulties within the context of their wider life experiences. He has supported many people experiencing anxiety, depression, and relational challenges.

A significant part of Nicholas’s work involves supporting children and families when a young person is experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties and parents are uncertain how best to help. He offers individual therapy with children, as well as joint sessions with children and parents. This work often uses child-led play to support emotional expression, increase awareness of emotional states, and strengthen the parent–child relationship.

Nicholas also offers support to expectant parents, mothers, fathers, and carers, working individually, as a couple, or with babies. This can be particularly helpful during times when parenting a young child feels challenging or overwhelming. He believes it is vital that parents have access to therapeutic support to help them manage the demands of parenting and feel more confident in their role.

Nicholas works from a consulting room in Uxbridge, West London, and also offers online therapy.
