Dr Michelle Hamill
20+ years of experience
Dr Michelle Hamill is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience working in mental health and leading psychological services within the NHS. She has extensive experience supporting adults across the lifespan with a wide range of emotional, physical, and relational difficulties, including challenges linked to major life transitions. Michelle brings a depth of clinical expertise alongside a thoughtful, compassionate approach to her private practice.
Michelle works with adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), health anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, and relationship difficulties. She is particularly experienced in supporting people whose psychological wellbeing is affected by changes in health, roles, or identity, helping clients adjust to new circumstances while maintaining a sense of meaning, stability, and connection.
Alongside her broad clinical work, Michelle has specialist expertise in supporting family members adapting to caring roles following health changes later in life. She has co-authored two books in this field, reflecting both her professional knowledge and her deep understanding of the emotional, relational, and practical challenges faced by families during these transitions.
Her therapeutic practice is informed by training in a wide range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Behavioural Activation, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), Neuropsychology and Neuro-rehabilitation, Life-Story Work, and Reminiscence Therapy. This breadth allows Michelle to tailor therapy flexibly, ensuring that treatment is both clinically effective and personally meaningful.
Michelle’s therapeutic style is thoughtful, compassionate, and collaborative. She provides a safe and supportive space where clients can reflect on their experiences, explore difficulties in depth, and develop practical strategies for change. Clients often value her ability to combine clear psychological insight with warmth and empathy, supporting them to navigate challenges and move forward with greater resilience and confidence.
