Simon Birke

30+ years of experience

Dr Simon Birke is a highly experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of clinical practice. He began his career in the NHS before moving into independent practice, where he now works with adults experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. Simon brings depth, clarity, and pragmatism to his work, drawing on decades of experience to tailor therapy carefully to each individual.

Simon works primarily within a cognitive behavioural framework and supports difficulties including anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias, sleep problems, low self-esteem, and anger or assertiveness issues. He also has extensive experience working with people affected by drug and alcohol misuse, gambling difficulties, and men seeking to change abusive or harmful patterns of behaviour within relationships. His work focuses on helping clients understand patterns that maintain difficulties and develop practical strategies for meaningful change.

His therapeutic practice is informed by training in a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Motivational Interviewing. This combination allows Simon to balance structured, skills-based interventions with compassion-oriented and reflective work, depending on what is most helpful for the client.

Simon’s therapeutic style is collaborative, clear, and straightforward. He works alongside clients to build understanding, confidence, and practical tools for change. Clients often value his grounded, supportive manner and his ability to offer both direction and encouragement throughout the therapeutic process.
