Dr Prarthana Shetty
15+ years of experience
Dr Prarthana Shetty is a Counselling Psychologist with extensive experience across both NHS and private settings. She holds a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and works with individuals facing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, including life transitions and adjustment, anxiety, shame, grief and loss, low mood, self-esteem concerns, and questions relating to faith and spirituality. She has particular interests in attachment, trauma, intersectional identity, and neurodivergence, areas in which she brings both clinical expertise and thoughtful sensitivity.
Prarthana works with adults and young people, supporting presentations that range from everyday stress and anxiety through to complex trauma and identity-related difficulties. She is particularly skilled in working with individuals navigating the psychological impact of cultural, social, or neurodiverse identities within their personal, relational, and professional lives. Her work often focuses on helping clients understand how earlier experiences and relational patterns continue to shape the present, and how these can be approached with greater compassion and clarity.
Her therapeutic approach is integrative and flexible, drawing on a range of evidence-based models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Psychodynamic Therapy. While she uses psychological frameworks thoughtfully, Prarthana places particular emphasis on the quality of the therapeutic relationship, offering an attuned, reflective space where clients can make sense of their past and integrate it into a more authentic and fulfilling present.
Prarthana’s style is collaborative, compassionate, and non-judgemental. She works alongside clients to explore the factors that may be maintaining their difficulties, offering both empathy and gentle challenge. Clients often value her ability to create a safe, reflective environment where they feel genuinely heard, supported, and understood.
Her aim is always to support people in developing greater self-understanding, emotional resilience, and the confidence to move towards change in ways that feel meaningful and aligned with their values.
