20+ years of experience

Dr Caroline Douglas Pennant has worked and studied in the field of mental health for over 20 years. She completed her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology before undertaking a post-doctoral Master’s in Systemic Therapy, further developing her expertise in working with families and relationships. Alongside her private practice, Caroline is a Principal Psychologist within NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), where she supports young people and parents with a wide range of difficulties.

Caroline provides therapy for teenagers, adults, and couples, with particular expertise in trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. In her private practice, she runs a busy couples counselling service, drawing on her specialist training to help partners strengthen their relationships, build understanding, and overcome difficulties together. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and has significant experience supporting people through the impact of trauma.

She is skilled in a wide range of evidence-based therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Behavioural Activation, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Couples Counselling, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), EMDR, Family Therapy, Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), Reminiscence Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Systemic Therapy. This breadth of expertise enables her to provide flexible, tailored interventions for the unique needs of each client.

Caroline’s specialist interests lie in supporting teenagers and couples, creating a safe and collaborative space in which challenges can be explored and addressed. Clients describe her as thoughtful, compassionate, and practical, with a style that balances warmth and empathy with structured, evidence-based methods.
