Dr Paul Lewis
15+ years of experience
Dr Paul Lewis is an experienced Counselling Psychologist with over 15 years of practice in both the NHS and private settings. He also provides supervision to other psychologists, reflecting his commitment to supporting the professional development of colleagues as well as his clients. Paul works with adults and older teenagers, offering therapy both online and face-to-face. His approach combines clear, evidence-based techniques with warmth and flexibility, ensuring that therapy is always tailored to the needs of each individual.
Paul has extensive experience treating a wide range of psychological difficulties, including depression, trauma, social and generalised anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), health anxiety, phobias, panic, and insomnia. He provides therapy that is grounded in scientific research while also being responsive to the client’s personal style and preferences. Depending on what is most helpful, Paul offers structured, skills-based strategies or a more counselling-informed approach, providing space for reflection and deeper understanding.
He is trained in a broad range of evidence-based therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Behavioural Activation, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Couples Counselling, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Motivational Interviewing. This breadth of expertise enables him to adapt therapy flexibly, helping clients manage symptoms effectively while also exploring underlying patterns and building long-term resilience.
Before training as a psychologist, Paul worked in current affairs and public relations. This experience gave him valuable insight into the realities of workplace stress, difficult personalities, challenging office politics, and demanding schedules, as well as the rewards of working with inspiring people and environments. He draws on this background to provide therapy that is especially relevant for professionals, executives, and those navigating the pressures of working life.
Clients describe Paul as clear, thoughtful, and pragmatic. He combines practical strategies with a supportive therapeutic relationship, helping people to reduce distress, build confidence, and move forward in meaningful ways.
