Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

What is MBCT?

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an evidence-based approach for managing anxiety, low mood and emotional overwhelm. MBCT combines elements of CBT with mindfulness practice to help you step out of cycles of rumination, stress and reactivity, and relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings. At Hampstead Psychology, we offer MBCT in Hampstead and Marylebone, London, as well as online across the UK and internationally.

How Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy Works

MBCT helps you notice what is happening in your mind and body with more awareness and less automatic reaction. Instead of being pulled into negative thinking or emotional discomfort, you learn to respond with steadiness, clarity and choice. By practising observing thoughts and feelings without judgement, you create space between experience and response, which supports emotional regulation, resilience and relapse prevention for those prone to anxiety, burnout or recurring depression.

What MBCT Can Help With

MBCT can help with recurrent depression and low mood, generalised anxiety and worry, stress and emotional exhaustion, overthinking and rumination, relapse prevention after previous therapy, perfectionism, and difficulty switching off.

Private MBCT with Experienced Psychologists

MBCT can be particularly helpful for high-functioning individuals who appear composed externally but feel caught in cycles of self-judgement, stress or emotional reactivity. We offer MBCT delivered by experienced clinical and counselling psychologists in a calm, confidential setting, tailored to your goals, whether you attend in person or online.
