Dr Stephanie Leyland

15+ years of experience

Dr Stephanie Leyland is a Senior Counselling Psychologist with over 15 years of experience in the field of mental health. She holds a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and postgraduate training in Systemic Practice. Her career has spanned both NHS and private settings, where she has worked as a senior and lead psychologist across several services. Stephanie’s breadth of experience allows her to work confidently and compassionately with children, teenagers, adults, couples, and families.

Stephanie has extensive experience as a CAMHS psychologist, supporting new parents, younger children, and teenagers with a wide range of emotional and psychological concerns. She is also an expert in couples counselling and has worked with adults facing anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, bereavement, insomnia, stress, and health-related difficulties. This diversity of experience enables her to provide therapy across the lifespan, adapting her style to meet the needs of each client.

She is trained in a wide range of evidence-based therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Family Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. Her ability to integrate these approaches means she can provide highly flexible, tailored support, whether working with individuals, couples, or families.

Stephanie describes couples counselling as “a systemic underpinning. During therapy we explore the experience of the couple, their family stories, how they came together, and what ruptures are happening. We then look at what changes they can make moving forward.”

She also describes her work with teenagers as “understanding unmet needs and thinking together about how those needs can be met. At times this involves family conversations, but often it is about teaching skills to help them move forward.”

Clients describe Stephanie as warm, thoughtful, and practical. She provides a safe and collaborative space where people feel supported, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes.
