Dr Stephanie Leyland

15+ years of experience

Dr Stephanie Leyland is a Senior Counselling Psychologist with over 15 years of experience working in the field of mental health. She holds a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and postgraduate training in Systemic Practice. Her career has spanned both NHS and private settings, where she has worked as a senior and lead psychologist across a number of services. This breadth of experience allows Stephanie to work confidently and compassionately with children, teenagers, adults, couples, and families.

Stephanie has extensive experience within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), supporting new parents, younger children, and teenagers with a wide range of emotional and psychological concerns. Alongside this, she works with adults and couples experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, bereavement, insomnia, stress, and health-related challenges. Her ability to work across the lifespan enables her to adapt therapy carefully to each individual or family’s needs.

Her therapeutic work is informed by training in a wide range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Therapy, and Family Therapy. Stephanie works integratively, allowing her to offer flexible and tailored support whether she is working with individuals, couples, or families.

Stephanie approaches couples counselling from a systemic perspective, exploring each partner’s experience, their family histories, how they came together, and where relational ruptures may have occurred. Therapy then focuses on understanding these patterns and supporting couples to make meaningful changes moving forward. In her work with teenagers, she places emphasis on understanding unmet needs and thinking collaboratively about how these can be addressed, sometimes involving family conversations and at other times focusing on skills that support independence and emotional growth.

Clients often describe Stephanie as warm, thoughtful, and practical. She creates a safe, collaborative therapeutic space where people feel supported, understood, and empowered to make changes that feel achievable and meaningful.
