Dr Simon Birke

Simon Birke

30+ years of experience

Dr Simon Birke works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, phobias, sleep problems, low self-esteem, anger, assertiveness difficulties, and patterns of behaviour that feel difficult to change. He also has extensive experience supporting people affected by drug and alcohol misuse, gambling difficulties, and men seeking to change abusive or harmful patterns within relationships. His work helps clients understand what is maintaining their difficulties and develop practical, evidence-based strategies for meaningful change.

Simon is a highly experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of clinical practice. He began his career in the NHS before moving into independent practice, where he now works with adults across a wide range of emotional, psychological, and behavioural difficulties. His depth of experience allows him to work with clarity, pragmatism, and strong clinical judgement, particularly where difficulties are longstanding, sensitive, or linked to patterns that have become entrenched over time.

Simon works primarily within a cognitive behavioural framework and draws on decades of experience to tailor therapy carefully to each individual. His therapeutic practice is informed by evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, and Motivational Interviewing. This allows him to balance structured psychological work with a thoughtful understanding of the emotional and interpersonal factors that may be keeping difficulties in place.

Simon’s style is collaborative, clear, straightforward, and clinically grounded. He offers a discreet and carefully focused approach for clients who want therapy to be practical, honest, and useful beyond sessions. He helps clients clarify what they want to change, understand the patterns driving their difficulties, and develop more effective ways of managing emotions, behaviour, relationships, and daily pressures. His work supports clients to reduce distress, build confidence, strengthen self-control, and move forward with greater clarity and resilience.
