Dr Megan Patterson
15+ years of experience
Dr Megan Patterson works with teenagers, adults, and families experiencing anxiety, panic, low mood, trauma, relationship difficulties, identity-related concerns, neurodiversity, stress, burnout, and the pressures that can arise during school, university, early adulthood, or family life. She supports clients who may be feeling overwhelmed, excluded, unsure of themselves, caught in unhealthy relationship patterns, or struggling to find a clear and steady way forward.
Megan is an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience in primary care, community, and NHS settings. She has worked with people across the lifespan and brings particular strength in supporting young people, adults, and families whose difficulties are shaped by trauma, relationships, identity, belonging, neurodiversity, and wider social context. Her experience allows her to understand the whole person and the systems around them, rather than viewing difficulties in isolation.
Alongside her clinical work, Megan has held leadership roles within NHS services supporting both adolescents and adults. She has led teams, facilitated reflective spaces for staff, and provided supervision to practitioners. This gives her strong experience in working with complexity and in helping people and systems make sense of distress, risk, uncertainty, and change in a thoughtful and practical way.
Megan has particular expertise in working with young people and families. She is skilled at engaging teenagers who may feel wary of services, unsure about therapy, or who have had difficult or inconsistent experiences of support in the past. Her work with adolescents and families draws on trauma-informed, attachment-based, narrative, and systemic approaches, adapted carefully to each young person’s needs, goals, and wider context.
Her therapeutic practice integrates a range of evidence-based approaches, including Narrative Therapy, Narrative Exposure Therapy, trauma-informed and attachment-based models, integrative psychological therapies, and community-focused approaches such as AMBIT. She works flexibly, combining psychological insight with practical support around self-care, boundaries, coping strategies, communication, and building healthier relationships.
Megan’s style is warm, down-to-earth, respectful, and collaborative. She helps clients clarify what they want to change, understand the patterns and pressures affecting them, and develop more effective ways of coping, communicating, setting boundaries, and navigating relationships. Her work supports clients and families to strengthen resilience, build confidence, and take meaningful steps towards a life that feels more stable, connected, and aligned with what matters to them.
