Dr Michelle Hamill

Dr Michelle Hamill

20+ years of experience

Dr Michelle Hamill works with adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, OCD, health anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, relationship difficulties, and the emotional impact of major life transitions. She is particularly experienced in supporting people whose wellbeing has been affected by changes in health, roles, identity, or family responsibilities, helping clients adjust to new circumstances while developing clearer, more effective ways of managing pressure, uncertainty, and change.

Michelle is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience working in mental health and leading psychological services within the NHS. Her senior clinical and leadership background gives her strong experience in working with complexity, supporting people through emotionally demanding circumstances, and developing thoughtful, well-structured psychological care.

Alongside her broader clinical work, Michelle has specialist expertise in supporting family members adapting to caring roles following health changes later in life. She has co-authored two books in this field, reflecting both her professional knowledge and her detailed understanding of the emotional, relational, and practical challenges families can face during these transitions.

Her therapeutic practice is informed by a wide range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Behavioural Activation, Exposure and Response Prevention, EMDR, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Narrative Exposure Therapy, Neuropsychology and Neuro-rehabilitation, Life-Story Work, and Reminiscence Therapy. This breadth allows Michelle to tailor therapy carefully to each client’s goals, circumstances, and priorities.

Michelle’s style is thoughtful, compassionate, collaborative, and clinically grounded. She offers a discreet and carefully tailored approach for adults who want therapy to be clear, focused, and practically useful. She helps clients clarify what they want to change, understand the patterns and pressures affecting them, and develop psychological strategies they can apply beyond sessions. Her work supports clients to navigate difficult transitions, strengthen resilience, improve relationships, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
