Silvia Miranda
20+ years of experience
Silvia Miranda is a Consultant Counselling Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience across the NHS and private practice in London. She offers a calm, thoughtful, and evidence-based approach, helping clients make sense of what’s been happening, reduce distress, and feel more in control again.
At Hampstead Psychology, Silvia works broadly with adults experiencing anxiety and low mood, including health anxiety, social anxiety, panic, phobias, obsessive compulsive difficulties, general worry and stress, as well as trauma-related symptoms. She also supports clients where eating and body image have become tangled up with anxiety, perfectionism, self-criticism, or a need to feel in control. Therapy is tailored, collaborative, and paced carefully, so that you feel safe and supported throughout.
Silvia has a strong background in trauma-informed practice. In senior NHS roles, she has contributed to the development of trauma-informed pathways and has supported both individuals and teams working in high-pressure environments. Her clinical work includes helping people who have been impacted by difficult life events, major incidents, and experiences that continue to echo in the body and mind long after they are over. She brings a steady, contained presence to this work, with an emphasis on stabilisation, choice, and building confidence before moving into deeper processing.
Silvia also has substantial experience supporting professionals and people in demanding roles. She has led teams, built wellbeing systems, and embedded clinical supervision and reflective practice across organisations. For clients in high-pressure careers, this can mean therapy that really understands the emotional costs of responsibility, exposure, or relentless performance — and makes room for recovery, boundaries, and a more sustainable way of living.
Silvia also has specialist experience in working with disordered eating and eating disorders, including work within an NHS Eating Disorders Service. When eating difficulties are part of the picture, she helps clients understand the psychological patterns underneath food and body-related behaviours, and supports change in a way that is compassionate, realistic, and sustainable.
Silvia integrates evidence-based models including CBT, ACT and trauma-focused approaches such as EMDR, alongside other psychological approaches where helpful. The focus is always on understanding the patterns that keep things going and developing practical, emotionally grounded ways to shift them.
Silvia is HCPC registered and is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the British Psychological Society. She works in English and is also fluent in Portuguese, with Spanish at an intermediate level.
If you’re considering therapy with Silvia, an initial appointment is a chance to talk through what you’re struggling with, what you want to be different, and what kind of support feels right. From there, you can agree together a clear plan and a pace that fits you.
