Dr Esther Cole

15+ years of experience

Dr Esther Cole works with children, young people, adults, and families experiencing a wide range of psychological difficulties, including anxiety, panic, OCD, depression, trauma, sleep difficulties, and the emotional impact of long-term physical or neurological health conditions. She helps clients understand how emotional distress, life experiences, identity, family context, and health challenges can interact, while developing practical ways to cope, recover, and move forward.

Esther is an award-winning Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of experience. She has received significant national recognition for her work, including becoming the first Black Clinical Psychologist to win the British Psychological Society’s Early Career Award in 2020. She has also twice been named Specialist Therapy Provider of the Year at the Prestige Awards, in 2022 and 2024. These achievements reflect her depth of clinical expertise, her leadership within the profession, and her commitment to providing high-quality psychological care.

Her academic and professional background includes a degree in Experimental Psychology from Oxford University, a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, and postgraduate training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. She has also developed expertise across a broad range of evidence-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Behavioural Activation, Exposure and Response Prevention, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Narrative Exposure Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Systemic Therapy, Reminiscence and Life Story Work, and Neuropsychological Rehabilitation.

Esther brings particular expertise in supporting people who are managing psychological difficulties alongside physical or neurological conditions. She also has a strong interest in men’s mental health and in working with clients who want therapy to take proper account of culture, identity, family context, and lived experience. As a third-generation British Jamaican psychologist and mother of three, she brings warmth, openness, and perspective to her work, while remaining grounded in evidence-based psychological practice.

Esther’s style is thoughtful, collaborative, practical, and clinically grounded. She helps clients clarify what they want to change, understand the patterns and pressures affecting their wellbeing, and develop more effective ways of managing distress, strengthening resilience, and making decisions in daily life. Her approach balances psychological depth with active therapeutic work, supporting clients and families to move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and stability.
