Dr Lia Marinko

Dr Lia Marinko

8+ years of experience

Dr Lia Marinko is a Clinical Psychologist who works with adults experiencing anxiety, stress, burnout, low mood, trauma and the psychological impact of sustained pressure. She has particular experience working with people in demanding professional environments and understands that significant distress can sit alongside high levels of competence and responsibility. She also works with clients whose difficulties are more complex or overlapping, helping them make sense of what is happening and identify a clear and practical way forward.

Lia has extensive experience across specialist psychological, occupational and mental health services, providing assessment and therapy for people experiencing occupational stress, trauma-related difficulties, anxiety and mood problems. She has also worked in services where careful assessment, sound clinical judgement and the ability to respond effectively to complex or high levels of distress are particularly important. This experience has given her a detailed understanding of how prolonged pressure, responsibility and difficult experiences can affect emotional wellbeing, relationships, performance and the ability to switch off.

Her wider clinical background includes crisis, specialist mental health and community services, where she has worked with trauma, emotional regulation difficulties, relationship problems, substance use and complex psychological presentations. She is experienced in helping clients understand how different aspects of their difficulties interact, rather than treating individual symptoms in isolation.

Lia holds a Master of Clinical Psychology and a PhD from the University of Western Australia and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK. She is also a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society. Her training spans a range of evidence-based psychological therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy and EMDR, allowing her to adapt her approach according to the individual rather than relying on a single model.

Lia’s style is thoughtful, structured and pragmatic. She works with clients to develop a clear understanding of the patterns contributing to their difficulties, establish what they want to change and translate psychological insight into practical changes outside the therapy room. Her aim is to help clients manage pressure and difficult emotions more effectively, reduce the impact of unhelpful patterns or past experiences, and develop more effective ways of responding to the challenges they face in their work, relationships and wider lives.
