Dr Gulshan Vazir

10+ years of experience

Gulshan is a highly experienced Counselling Psychologist with a strong background in both physical health and mental health settings. She currently works as Principal Counselling Psychologist and Deputy Service Lead for the Oncology Psychology Service at University College London Hospitals, where she provides specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and therapy for people living with cancer and other complex health conditions.

She has particular expertise in the emotional impact of illness, trauma, adjustment, uncertainty, grief, and the strain that can arise when life no longer feels as secure or predictable as it once did. Her work is especially helpful for clients who are facing experiences that feel complex, intense, or difficult to untangle. She is known for her ability to hold these experiences with sensitivity and clarity, helping clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their difficulties in a way that feels both grounded and hopeful.

Alongside her current role, she has held senior NHS posts at St George’s Hospital and the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. In these roles, she worked with clients experiencing a wide range of psychological difficulties, while also contributing to service development, consultation, supervision, and psychologically informed team support. This breadth of experience gives her a sophisticated understanding of both individual distress and the wider systems around a person’s care.

Her academic background includes a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, an MSc in Clinical Neuroscience from King’s College London, and a BA in Psychology from York University in Toronto. She has also completed additional training in clinical supervision, trauma, OCD, somatic disorders, psychoanalytic group work, art therapy, and work with children and young people.

In private practice, she offers a warm, containing, and highly professional therapeutic space. Clients often come to her when they are feeling overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or are trying to cope with the psychological impact of illness, stress, relationships, or major life events. Her style is thoughtful, compassionate, and deeply attuned, while also helping clients move towards greater understanding, resilience, and change.
